Team Shipley Walk 2019

The total raised by Team Shipley since 2012 for Thrombosis UK is £23,376.14p

On Friday 25th October 2019 Martin and Maureen Shipley completed their epic walk around the coast of the British Isles where it had begun at Robin Hood’s Bay on Valentine’s Day, 14th February all done in memory of Dawn, their daughter, who tragically died in 2011 aged just 37 leaving 3 beautiful girls behind her which has devastated this lovely family.

A mammoth trip of 3,681 miles walked over 254 consecutive days! Martin walked every single last mile, with Maureen joining him for 1,300 of those miles and driving over 13,000 miles to meet him at various points along the way. Martin also maintained a daily blog on their Facebook page to keep the almost 2,000 followers they accrued over the 8.5 months they walked up to date with his progress which can be seen here https://www.facebook.com/MartinAndMaureensWalk

We were fortunate enough to be there to celebrate the end of their challenge at Robin Hood Bay as they arrived, together with some of the walkers who had kept them company on that final trek; drenched, freezing cold, but elated to have finally crossed that finish line!

Martin’s last walking blog below says it all:

“For today's post we simply want to say a massive THANK YOU. Yesterday's finale was fantastic. There were so many people there supporting us. We feel certain that we didn't spend enough time with everyone. But the important thing is that you were there for us and it made the day very special.

We know that the very many well-wishers and supporters that weren't there in person were definitely with us in spirit. We've had countless messages over the last two days, and since we finished, and we are so overwhelmed by them.

I hope that you've managed to see the filming of us by the BBC on the tele. If not it's now on You Tube - here's a link. https://youtu.be/mKHM7NnyJOg

Today we've travelled to our home in Derby. It's great to be back home, but it will take a few days for me to get used to it again. Then again, if I don't get used to it we can always go for a walk!! For now, though, I just need to rest up”.

As of 18th November 2019, they have raised an incredible £10,754.80p (£12,513.25p including Gift Aid) with donations still coming in, smashing their initial £6,000 target! This money will make a massive difference to the work that Thrombosis UK can undertake raising awareness, educating health professionals and the public, and providing care and support to families such as the Shipleys, bereaved by thrombosis, and to patients affected by thrombosis.

All of us here at Thrombosis UK send a huge thank you to the on-going support Martin and Maureen Shipley have given to us since 2011, raising many thousands of pounds for us in memory of their beloved Dawn.
